I have an invitation to a gallery opening with friends, but there is no dress guidance beyond the start time. The clothes I already feel good in are black trousers and a plain cream shirt, so I want to start there. The question is how to add some personality without turning the outfit into something I would never normally wear. Is a muted blue scarf a useful accent here, or would a different texture be enough without adding color? The venue is within walking distance, which means practical shoes and an evening layer need to work with everything else.
